Knee Pain & Running Injury Treatment in Fort Lauderdale

Most running-related knee pain — runner's knee (patellofemoral pain), IT band syndrome, patellar tendinopathy — is a load-management problem, not permanent damage. The pattern is familiar: mileage or intensity jumped, the knee complained, rest helped, and the pain returned the next time you ramped up. Effective care breaks that loop: settle the irritated tissue, find the contributing factors (hip strength, cadence, training spikes), and rebuild with a graded return-to-run plan. That's the model at Pure Kinetics, a sports rehab and performance facility in Fort Lauderdale.

What makes our approach different for runners

Rehab and training live under one roof. Dr. Blake Pennock, DC, CSCS treats the injury and programs the return — including runner-specific performance training once you're past the injury phase. You don't graduate from rehab into a void; you graduate into a plan.

  1. Assessment — injury history, training history (the spike usually hides there), strength testing, movement screen
  2. Settle symptoms — hands-on care as indicated: manipulation, dry needling, IASTM, cupping, myofascial release; shockwave for stubborn tendinopathy
  3. Rebuild — progressive strength work targeting what the assessment found (commonly hip and quad capacity)
  4. Return to run — a graded mileage/intensity plan, not a guess

Common questions

Should I stop running completely? Often no — many running injuries tolerate reduced or modified running while rehabbing, and keeping some running in the plan makes the return smoother. The assessment tells us which category you're in.

Is it my running form? Sometimes a contributing factor, more often it's training load outpacing tissue capacity. We look at both rather than selling you a form overhaul by default.

Do I need an MRI for knee pain? Usually not for gradual-onset running pain. Sudden traumatic injuries with swelling, instability, or locking are a different story — those get referred for imaging appropriately.

I'm training for a race or HYROX — can you work around my schedule? Yes. Programming around a race calendar (including HYROX-specific training) is something we do routinely.
