Low Back Pain & Sciatica Treatment in Fort Lauderdale
If your low back hurts — or you have pain radiating down your leg — the most useful first step is a proper assessment. Most low back pain is mechanical (related to how your joints, discs, nerves, and muscles are moving and loading), and mechanical problems respond well to conservative care: hands-on treatment to calm symptoms and restore motion, followed by progressive exercise to rebuild tolerance. That combination is exactly how care is structured at Pure Kinetics, a sports rehab and performance facility in Fort Lauderdale led by Dr. Blake Pennock, DC, CSCS.
What treatment looks like here
- Assessment first. We identify which movements and positions provoke your pain, screen for signs that need referral (that screening matters — not every back pain belongs in a rehab clinic), and establish a baseline.
- Calm it down. Depending on your presentation: spinal manipulation, dry needling, IASTM, cupping, myofascial release, or TECAR therapy to reduce pain and improve motion.
- Build it back up. Corrective exercise progressing into real strength work. Low backs generally do best when they're gradually loaded, not just rested — the goal is a back that tolerates your life, your job, and your sport.
About sciatica specifically
"Sciatica" describes pain radiating along the sciatic nerve path — buttock, back of thigh, sometimes to the calf or foot. It's a symptom, not a diagnosis; the assessment's job is to find the source and match care to it. Numbness that's progressing, leg weakness, or changes in bowel or bladder control are red flags that need prompt medical evaluation, not a rehab visit — if that's you, seek medical care first.
Common questions
Should I rest or stay active? For most mechanical back pain, staying active within tolerance recovers faster than bed rest. We'll show you what "within tolerance" means for your specific case.
Do I need an X-ray or MRI first? Usually not. Current guidelines reserve imaging for specific red flags or when results would change the plan. If your presentation warrants imaging, we'll refer you.
How many visits will I need? It depends on your presentation and goals — that's an honest "it varies." You'll get a clear, individualized plan after your first assessment, and we re-evaluate as you progress.
Do you only see athletes? No. The same sports-rehab model works for desk workers with stubborn back pain — many of our patients from Flagler Village, Victoria Park, and Wilton Manors are active professionals, not competitive athletes.
